Edit files right on the FTP server with FileZilla

Pt. 4 of 5 | 2:45 |

Easy FTP with FileZilla

Thursday August 13, 2009
Having the ability to

transfer files from computer to FTP server

or vice-versa is great. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just edit a file that's on the FTP server though, without having to download it? With FileZilla that's not a problem. You can

view graphics files and edit text files right on your FTP server

. One very useful touch, especially for

updating your personal web site

is that you can save your changes directly to the remote file, sitting on the

FTP server

.

Show Notes

- Open FileZilla and connect to your server.

- Highlight a graphics file on the server and right-click.

- Move down to the View/Edit selection and click on that.

- The graphic will open so you can see exactly how it looks.

- If you highlight a text file with FileZilla it will open with your default text editor.

- Make the changes you want and then save.

- When you close the text editor you'll be prompted to save the changes to the original on your FTP server.

- Click Yes if you want to keep the changes and the file will be updated on the server.
