Show Notes
- We'll be using an almost completed piece to demonstrate.
- Each track has its own volume slider. There are a number of ways to make sure that no instrument is too loud, but we'll start by turning everything down but the drums.
- Next, we raise the bass so that it can be heard but doesn't overpower the drums. It's a good idea to use decent headphones or speakers to get this right.
- If there is a guitar lead or other instrument creating a feel for the song, you'll want that to be turned up. Melodic instruments like strings may be turned down to provide background.
- There is no right or wrong here, but it's a good idea to have a similar-sounding song to use as a reference.
- In order to change the volume of certain tracks over time, you can click the downward-facing arrow on the track controls.
- You'll see a track volume line appear. This can be used to raise or lower the volume over time at multiple points in the song.
- Effects can be used to give your sound a particular feel, but overuse can ruin a song. Experiment to find what's right for you.
- Click on an instrument on the left to see the effects listed on the right. These come preset but can be changed at any time.
