We continue our
Nexus One hands on
by taking a look at the "Google Phone" homescreens, choosing new widgets, selecting a wallpaper that's more to our liking. We also take a look at the primary and secondary functions of the capacitive buttons that appear along the bottom of the phone's screen. We set a new lock pattern to secure the device and take a look at the phone's menu systems in this part of ourNexus One video tutorial series

- Tap the grid pattern to bring up more applications than are on the homescreens.
- Tap the menu button to bring up a context-sensitive menu. Tap and hold to bring up the software keyboard.
- Tap the home button to return to the homescreen at any time. Tap and hold to bring up favorite applications.
- Tap the magnifying glass button to search. Tap and hold to bring up a voice search option.
- Tap and hold on the homescreen to bring up a customization menu.
- Select Wallpapers from the list and choose the source for your wallpaper.
- Live wallpapers incorporate motion and some change between different home screens.
- Wallpapers are still images.
- Gallery is where you'll find pictures you've taken and saved to the device.
- Select your wallpaper from the list and tap to get a preview.
- Tap Set wallpaper to apply your selection to the phone.
- Tap and hold to bring up the homescreen menu.
- Select Widgets from the menu.
- Select the Widget you'd like to put on your homescreen.
- If there are options to configure, you'll be alerted and asked to select.
- To remove a widget, tap on it and hold. The on-screen menu button becomes a trash can. Drag the widget to the trash can and when it turns red, release.
- Tap and hold to bring up the homescreen menu.
- Select Folders from the list.
- Select from the preconfigured folders or create a new one.
- To rename a folder, tap to open and then hold your finger over the name in the title bar. Tap in the text box to bring up the on-screen keyboard and select a new name for the folder.
- Delete folders by tapping and holding then dragging to the trash.
- Tap and hold to bring up the homescreen menu.
- Select Shortcuts.
- Select items you'd like to create homescreen shortcuts and configure as required.
- To move any item from one homescreen page to another, tap and hold to select and then drag to the edge of the screen to change pages.
To set a lock pattern:
- Tap the menu button and select Settings.
- Choose Location & security.
- Select Set or Change unlock pattern.
