Moving from Windows to Mac can be a little jarring to your established computer workflow. While there are significant differences between Windows and Mac operating systems, there are a number of similarities too. Here, we go through the Mac Finder for newcomers to OSX.

- The Finder in Mac OSX is the equivalent of Windows Explorer on the PC.
- Use the Finder to manage your files and folders.
- On the left side of the Finder window is the Sidebar.
- The Sidebar gives access to Devices (external hard drives, USB drives), Shared (shared folders or drives on the network) and Places (important folders and locations on the physical machine).
- There are several different view modes in Finder. Switch between them using the View buttons. Options include icon, list, columns and cover flow.
- To see and switch between programs that are running on your Mac, use Cmnd + Tab. Similar to Alt + Tab in Windows.
- To open a new Finder window, hit Cmnd + N.
