There are lots of ways to make the Internet safer for your children. The best way is to sit with them and make sure they know about the dangers, all of them. From viruses, to spyware, to predators, nothing should be held back. You can help your children by simply making your Web browser a part of the safety plan.

- Open Internet Explorer.

- Click Tools, then click Internet Options.

- Click on the Privacy tab in increase the level so it toughens up how the browser responds to the Internet.

- Click on the Content tab and then click on Content Advisor, and click Enable.

- In Content Advisor you can limit exactly what content can be viewed on your computer.

- Click on Approved Sites to personally list sites your children are allowed to visit like school-related sites and the like.

- In Firefox there's no Content Advisor, but you can do something else which is to set a Master Password.

- First click on the Privacy tab and set the history to be kept for a period of time, like 90 days. EVERY site your children visit will be logged in the history.

- While Firefox doesn't have its own content advisor, there are several safety add-ons and extensions.

- Glubble is a good example.
