When you first boot up Windows Vista, your desktop will look like every other Windows Vista desktop. With a few simple steps, it's easy to customize the color and appearance of the Windows Start menu, taskbar and window borders to personalize your Windows Vista environment.

- Right click on an empty space on your Windows Vista desktop and choose Personalize.
- Click on Window Color and Appearance to see eight color options for windows borders, the Start menu and taskbar. Use the Color Intensity slider bar to change how saturated the chosen color appears.
Or
- Choose Show color mixer and adjust the three slider bars to create your own custom color scheme.
- Use the Enable transparency checkbox to choose between opaque or translucent windows.
- When you're satisfied with the results, click on the OK button to save your preferences.
