- Open Gmail in your browser.

- Select an email that you want to base a filtering rule on. In our example we used a PayPal electronic funds transfer.

- Select the email by checking the checkbox on the left.

- Now, click More actions and select Filter messages like these.

- In the dialog include the

filter

criteria you want like email address, subject, if the emails will have an attachment, and so on.

- You can click Test Search to make sure your filter is getting the right emails, then click Next Step.

- You have a variety of things you can do like Skip the inbox, Mark as read, Star it, Apply the Label, Forward it, Delete it, and Never send it to Spam.

- In our example we picked

Apply the Label

and then created a new label to reflect what the emails dealt with.

- When we're finished you can check the box to apply the filter to the other messages found and then click Create Filter.

- You now have a

label and a filter

that work together to help organizer your email.
