Google has upgraded

Google Sync

so that it now provides "push" email to mobile devices. This will impact iPhone, iPod Touch, and Windows Mobile devices. Google pulled this off by utilizing the Microsoft Exchange capabilities built into the devices.

- Google Sync has been upgraded to provide "push" email.

- This impacts iPhone, iPod Touch, and Windows Mobile devices.

- Enabling "push" capability means Gmail, contacts, and calendars will be updated immediately.

- To this point Gmail had to be pulled in by the mobile devices every 15 to 30 minutes.

- Push email places less of a drain on a device's battery.

- If you already use Microsoft Exchange with a business account you will not be able to set up a second account to handle Gmail.
