" make it easy to open files in the program the file is associated with. You can know with certainty that if you double-click on a TXT file it will open in Notepad, but what if you don't want to use Notepad? That's where changing the file association comes in.Download this episode now

- To change a
file association
just find a file of that type.- In our example we used TXT files.
- Highlight the file and right-click.
- Select Choose Default program.
- Generally, there will be a few programs displayed.
- If the program you want to use is shown simply, select it.
- If you want it to always be used to open that type of file be sure to check the check box.
- If you don't see the program you want to use just click Browse.
- You can navigate around your computer and find the program you want.
- Be sure to highlight the EXE file for the program.
- When you're done, just click OK.
- You can change the file associations of any file.
