- Look at the programs on your Windows desktop.
- Determine which program you use most often.
- Right-click on the desktop, select View and then pick Auto Arrange.
- Now, left click on one of those frequently-used programs and drag it to the far left of your desktop.
- Repeat this with ALL of the program you use most.
- Look for patterns among your programs like media-related, print-related, graphics-related and so on.
- If you have five print programs right-click on the Desktop, select New and then Folder and create a folder called Print Related.
- Now drag the five print programs and put them in that folder.
- Do the same with other categories of software on your desktop, like games, for example.
- You can get many program icons in one folder and in the meantime the programs you use most are lined up on the left side of your desktop.
- Deal with program icons as you install things and don't let your desktop get out of control.
- Be sure to delete files you don't use that you've put on your desktop or move them to the appropriate folder.
