How to compress files with WinRAR

Many files on your computer can get quite large. This is true of documents, text files, photos, and more. You can use WinRAR to

compress files into a RAR archive

and make them smaller.

- Download WinRAR.

- Once you've downloaded and installed WinRAR just run the program.

- The main interface is a file dialog that's much like Windows Explorer.

- This interface allows you to maneuver around your PC to find the files you want to compress.

- Move to the area where the files you want to compress reside.

- To select a group of files that are in a row you can hold down the Shift key, move to the end of the list, and then click the mouse.

- To select non-sequential files from a list simply hold down the Ctrl key and click the mouse on each file you want to select.

- When you've selected all the files you want to compress click Add.

- WinRAR has many options, but those will be covered in other tutorials.

- Give your archive a name or accept the default one WinRAR assigns.

- When you're ready click OK.

- Your RAR archive is created.

- If you double-click on the RAR archive you can see the contents of the RAR file.
