Create an Ubuntu virtual machine
with VMware Workstation. The virtual machine will run right on your physical computer and you cantry Ubuntu without altering your computer

- Download VMware Workstation
- Download Ubuntu 9.04
- Install VMware Workstation and then run it.
- Click New Virtual Machine.
- Select Custom and click Next.
- For hardware compatibility leave all options as they are and click Next.
- Click Installer disk image file and click Browse.
- Find the Ubuntu ISO file you downloaded and select that. Click Open and then Next.
- Type in your name, your user name, and type in a password twice. Click Next.
- Give a name to your
- Select a special location for your virtual machine or use the default. Click Next.
- Indicate the number of processors and how many cores per processor.
- As an example a "Dual Core" computer has 1 processor and 2 cores. Click Next.
- Indicate the memory for your virtual machine. The defaults are generally good. Click Next.
- Select your type of networking. Bridged networking lets your virtual machine have its own IP address where NAT has it share the IP address of the host.
- Click Next and use the default I/O adapter. Click Next.

- Change the name of the disk file if you like and click Next.
- You'll see a summary of your virtual machine and click Finish.

Create a new virtual disk
, click Next and use the recommended disk type and click Next.- Assign a size for your

. You can allocate all the space now, but it's often good to select splitting the disk into 2 GB files. Click Next.- Change the name of the disk file if you like and click Next.
