- Once you've installed Ubuntu either in a virtual machine or on a computer, fire it up!

- With Ubuntu running click on System, then on Preferences, and then on Appearance.

- Click on the Theme tab.

- Ubuntu comes with a variety of themes that you can pick from to change the overall look of the system.

- You can also change the background.

- You can use images of your own for the background and add them to the system.

- You can

change colors

and use solid, vertical, or horizontal gradients.

- You can also change the fonts in a number of areas.

- Pick the font style and the font size that works for you.

- On the Interface tab you can decide how things look in the interface.

- You can have it show icons in menus.

- Have editable menu shortcut keys.

- Configure how Toolbar button labels appear and see a preview.

- On the Visual Effects tab you can pick from a range of visual effects.

- Ubuntu can even display 3D effects if you have the appropriate graphics card.
