When your Windows PC gets sluggish, among the first thing a geek friend will tell you is "you should defrag your hard drive." That's all well and good, but how do you actually go about doing so? We break it down.

- Go to the Control Panel and type "defrag" into the search box, and click on Defragment your hard drive when it appears.
- To manually defragment right now, click on Defragment Now...
- Select the drive(s) you want to defragment and click on OK to begin.
- You can click on the Close button to hide the Disk Defragmenter window; the defragmentation will continue in the background.
And that's all there is to it!
Do a disk defragmentation whenever you notice your system is acting sluggishly.
