Remote desktop

lets you access your computer from anywhere. It's a popular feature in some versions of Windows. However,

new Ubuntu users

will be happy to know that Ubuntu comes with a

free remote desktop application

pre-installed. Here's how to enable it.

Show Notes

- In Ubuntu click on System then Preferences and then

Remote Desktop

.

- You have a number of options to choose from.

- Under Sharing you can check the box that will allow other users to view your desktop.

- Under that you have the option to allow others to control your desktop. Select that if you wish.

- Under Security you can check the box that requires that you must confirm each access.

- You can also elect to have your system require a password that you would give to the person logging in.

- Finally, you can configure your system to automatically accept connections.

- Under Notification you can have

Remote Desktop

always display an icon, only display an icon when someone is connected, or never display one.

- When you're done click Close.

- Your Ubuntu machine is now able to accept remote connections using the criteria you've established.
