receive email updates

if the blocks are triggered. In this episode, we'll show you

how to set up your router

so that you

receive email notifications

Show Notes

- In your router software, look for Email.

- Here you can turn on email notifications.

- You'll need your outgoing (SMTP) mail server information.

- You'll also need to know if your mail server requires authentication.

- You can get this information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

- You can have the router send you an email immediately when someone tries to visit a blocked site.

- Or you can have logs sent to you at specified times: daily, weekly or monthly.

- You can specify a day and time if you pick weekly.

- Make sure your time zone is correct and compensate for daylight savings time if necessary.

- Click Apply.

- Now you will receive emails based on your configuration.

I had no idea a router could be such a versatile tool. This series has been a real eye opener for me. I have set up my own home network and secured it without the benefit of series 101 but I think that series (and probably series 201 as well) should be required viewing for anyone setting up their own network. Looking forward to the rest of 201... thanks guys
