In Ubuntu, you can take complete control of the way the operating system deals with sound. You can easily

take control of the input and output volume in Ubuntu

in the

Volume Control panel

.

Ubuntu is great for recording and playing back music and video. It also has built-in features for

controlling the sounds

you get from your system.

Show Notes

- In Ubuntu click on System then on Preferences, and then on

Volume Control

.

- In Volume Control you can click on the drop-down menu to pick the device you want to configure.

- You can set an

individual volume

for CD, PCM, Line-In, and so on.

- At the same time you can set a

Master Volume

that covers all of them.

- At the base of a volume slider you'll notice two links of chain connected.

- This link means the two sliders move together.

- If you click in the center of the link it will divide and you can adjust each side by itself.

- You can click on Sound Theme to set a sound theme.

- Under Preferences you can define what items appear on the main list.

- You can add or remove items in this way.
