Most of us who have

cell phones

don't even bother to think about the features that are active all the time that we don't even use or aren't using at the time. By

turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

and such when they are not in use, you can effectively

extend your battery life

and

save power

at the same time. We give you some

Show Notes

- This tutorial won't use any application that's specifically designed to increase battery life but will instead focus on common sense and energy conservation.

- We'll also use Free Power Widget which is available in the Android Market.

- Once downloaded hold your finger down in a blank area on your screen until the menu comes up and then press Widget.

- Scroll down and find Free Power Widget (1 x 4). Make sure you have an area of free space on the screen because this widget can be wide.

- At the configuration screen, tap each button and set it to toggle a different item, like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. When you're done, tap Save.

- Now, think about what you need and turn off anything that you don't really need in this moment. You can turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS if you aren't using them.

- Turn off auto-sync if you don't need email and other things synchronized at the moment.

- The key is to think of what you really need and turn off the rest. Many of us go around with our phones constantly using as much power as they can.

- Other options are to automate power-saving with tools like Tasker and Locale. You can also use battery-specific apps like Juice Defender.
