We've all see people who have a
mass of icons on their Windows desktop
. Sometimes it seems like every file on their computer is right there on the desktop in a jumble of color. This need not be however. With a little planning it's easy toorganize your Windows desktop and keep it organized

- Most users only use a few programs regularly. These are the program shortcuts that should stay on the desktop. Others should be sorted out.
- Right-click the desktop, then to Arrange Icons By and make sure Auto-Arrange Icons is not checked.
- The reason we've done this is so you can easily move your related programs and files close to each other.
- Look at the icons on your desktop and see if some are related.
- Like a number of documents, five programs that all deal with printing, seven programs that all deal with photos, and so on.
- Other icons will be "related" simply because you don't use them very often.
- Right-click on the desktop, click New, and then Folder.
- Give the folder a catch-all name like Utilities, Miscellaneous, Misc. etc.
- Now drag and drop files that meet that criteria into the proper folder.
- In our example we put all kinds of utility programs in a Utilities folder.
- By putting related files and related programs in folders together you take up much less room on your desktop.
