When you have a home network it's handy to be able to share files and folders between computers. In order to do that, however, you have to opt-in to share your drive on the network. Here's how to do it.

- Double-click on My Computer.
- Right-click on the folder or drive that you want to share.
- Select Sharing and Security from the context menu.
- When you click you'll see two check boxes.
- Check the first one to share the drive or folder.
- The next checkbox is to let network users alter your files. This means other users on your network will have access to, for example, read, edit or even delete a document.
- If you want to allow that then check the box.
- If you do not want to let network users change your files then leave the box unchecked. Users can still view files and documents but can't make changes to them.
- Click OK and Windows will set some folder permissions on the network.
- Your drive will now have a hand underneath it to signify that the drive is being shared.
- Right-click on the folder or drive that you want to share.
