- With old school black or white Macbooks, you'll want to first take out the battery.
- Under the battery component, you should see a metal guard. Unscrew any screws and slowly ease this out.
- There should be a slot on one side for the hard drive. Grab the pull tab and slide that out gently.
- The drive itself is encased in a sleeve. Using a torque screwdriver, remove the screws holding the sleeve on and remove the sleeve.
- Now take the new drive and place it into the sleeve and reverse the process.
- The new Macbook configuration (including Macbook Pros) requires a different method. First, flip the Macbook upside down and remove the screws securing it from the back.
- You'll see the hard drive secured by a bracket. Unscrew the bracket and remove it gently. You should be able to slide the drive out now.
- Detach the cable and remove the screws from the side of the drive. Now fasten those screws onto the new hard drive and attach the cable to it.
- Replace the hard drive, following these steps in the reverse order.
- If you have an old Macbook Pro that doesn't have a backing plate, you'll want to first remove the battery, then all of the screws on the outside of the bezel.
- There are a couple of screws inside the battery compartment you will need to remove. You'll also need to remove the screws securing the RAM compartment.
- Remove the rest of the screws on the back and carefully turn the computer back over. Now remove the entire keyboard cover, but be careful as you'll need to detach the ribbon that secures the keyboard to the logic board.
- You'll see the hard drive, secured by a bracket. Unscrew this and remove the drive, detaching the ribbon when you do so.
- Unscrew the screws on the bumpers and screw these into your hard drive. Attach the cable and place your new hard drive in the hard drive bay.
- Carefully follow these steps in reverse order to put your Macbook Pro case together again. Make sure you remember to attach the keyboard ribbon to the logic board.
