How to use a password to protect your iPhone

There's a lot of personal information on your iPhone. Email, documents, photos and more. If you're concerned about others accessing that information you can

lock your iPhone with a passcode

. You can even make it so that data is wiped from your iPhone after a certain number of failed access attempts. Here's how.

- On your iPhone tap on Settings and then on General.

- Under General tap on Passcode Lock.

- A screen comes up prompting you for a 4 digit passcode.

- Put in a number that you can remember but that's not easy to guess.

- For example, using your birthday is not a good idea.

- Enter the passcode and then enter it again.

- Under Require Passcode you can elect to have it come on immediately, after 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, and 4 hours.

- You can leave Voice Dial on or shut it off.

- If you turn Erase Data on, all of the data on your iPhone will be erased when there have been 10 failed passcode attempts.

- Tap Change Passcode to change it.

- Tap Turn Passcode Off to disable it. You'll be asked to enter your passcode in order to disable the function.

- Now, when you pick up your iPhone and Slide to unlock you'll be presented with the Passcode screen.

- Enter your passcode and you'll have access to your iPhone.
