How to use the Action Center in Windows 7 RC 1

In the past you may have been annoyed by Windows always giving you messages about one thing or another. Notices about Windows Updates, messages about virus protection, warnings about the firewall and the like. Now, in Windows 7 RC 1, you can take control of User Account Control (UAC) or even turn UAC off entirely.

Show Notes

- To access the

Action Center

click Start and then Control Panel.

- In Control Panel click on System and Security and in System and Security click on Action Center.

- In

Action Center

you will immediately see the status of anti-virus software.

- If you don't have

anti-virus

software installed you'll see a red bar to get your attention.

- There's also a button that will open a browser and take you to the Internet to find anti-virus software.

-

Action Center

also shows you the status of

Windows Update

. There will be a red bar if Windows Update is not set up.

- Click Change Settings to change Windows Update to update automatically.

- On the left-hand side click Change Action Center settings.

- Here you can uncheck any area where you don't want to receive messages from Windows.

- When you're done click OK.

- Click View performance information to see how your computer rates as far as processor, RAM, and so on.
