To get started, you'll need to grab the

Android Software Developer Kit

(SDK) which you'll find at bscotch.tv/SDK and the Java SDK which you can grab from bscotch.tv/javaSDK. Thanks to AddictiveTips.com for their excellent guides, which helped in the making of this tutorial.

First, install the Android SDK and go through the update process. De-select everything except Android SDK Platform Tools and hit "Install."

Now, we'll need to add the directory c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\adb to our Path. To do that, right-click on My Computer, select Properties and choose Advanced System Settings. Click the Environment Variables button under the Advanced tab. Find Path in the System variables list and edit it. Make sure to simply add that line and leave the rest as it is.

Next, we need to install a driver so that our computer recognizes the NOOK Color when it's plugged in. This will allow us to push packages onto the NOOK. Open the Android SDK again and select Available Packages. Expand the list for third party add-ons and then expand Google Inc. Look for Google USB Driver Package and select it. Click Install Selected. In the window that appears, select Accept and then Install.

Now, plug in the NOOK Color, booted into Honeycomb. You'll also need to grab HoneyGApps v2 from bscotch.tv/apps. Unzip the archive and double-click HoneyGAppInstall. The Market, Maps and other Google apps and services will now be pushed to your NOOK Color.

Was so glad until I read the comments. Already had enough.Getting ready to follow the instructions but from the foregoing,I feel I've made a wrong purchase. My nook will be worth the buy only if my android apps and market are working.Already having challenges with installing the honeycomb. Tried the android sdk and pc keeps telling me my java is not recognizable, just after I had downloaded the latest version. Its one of two things: either we're wrong and they are right or the vice versa. Any successful follower out there? Giv us some hope.

I followed the step exactly, but ended up with an Android tablet without a working touchscreen. I couldn't even get it to power off since the touchscreen wouldn't work to confirm. Eventually took the microsdhc card out and was relieved to have it boot back up as normal. While I was at it, update the B&N software from 1.3 to 1.4.2. After doing some research, it appears that B&N change the display hardware at some point and the Honeycomb load specified does not support the new hardware. See the link below: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385896 I'd like to know if you are aware of any solutions / updates that will work, preferably still on the microsdhc card such that it can be removed and the Nook Color go back to "normal"? Thanks!

for those having any trouble with this, i feel your pain. I had a terrible time getting my NC to work with this. I followed all of the steps and ran into so many problems it made me want to punch myself in the balls.... but alas, i persevered at last. Hopefully this will help you all. First of all, i had SD card issues. The card only registered 117mb!!! it was/is an 8gb sandisk card. I used SDFormatter to fix that. https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/ next, i used win32diskimager to get the honeycomb image onto the sd card. This was because i kept getting an 'access denied' error with WinImage. http://www.ghacks.net/2010/11/01/win32-disk-imager-image-writer-for-windows/ Finally, i followed the steps outlined here 100% (using windows so scroll down for those) and i was finally able to get the market onto my nook color. I mean i followed 100% too, do the checks to verify things and save yourself a headache. http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB i hope that helps anyone having trouble.

The bscotch.tv/javaSDK link is not working and Oracle has shifted around the website. Can you please point me to the right Java SDK? Thanks.

I GOT IT! after MANY hours and getting the flashing black box( by the way if u ever need to see whats in a flashing screen, record it as a movie with a digital camera then play it back and pause it) 1st unplug your nook- and uninstall everything related to it in device manager. download Android SDK above- dont think u need the Java, maybe u do not sure. then Follow instructions here http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB 2 BIG mistakes not noted above, 1st when adding to the path, it must be preceded with a semi colon so use ;c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\adb 2nd When unzipping files MAKE SURE they unzip to that same path ( default is your current folder plus that path= WRONG) - After follow instructions at above link and doing the verification, THEN get HoneyGApps from above link on this page unzip to c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools , yes same folder as adb. use command prompt and go to that folder and type honeygappinstall and hopefully it will push to your nook, mine did then rebooted then market was there on Honeycomb

Spent HOURS following the directions exactly. Uninstalled everything and reinstalled, to No Avail. When I double-click on HoneyGAppInst... a black box flashes and then nothing happens. What gives here? Seems lots of folks are having the exact same problem.

The error message is "device not found", right after daemon installed successfully, and then after each adb command.

Well... I was able to get Honeycomb onto the NC and get the HoneyGApps pushed onto the unit. Most work really well, and I can browse using Wifi. My problem is getting signed in to use Android Marketplace. It keeps taking me to the GMail login and when I try to login it says that connectivity issues won't allow me to sign in. I can do it through the browser, so I do have good wifi connectivity. Unfortunately though, I still cannot use the android marketplace. Any ideas? Thanks

Sorry-one more question. Not a programmer obviously, but you would figure you you could download the drivers and put them in the folder in SDK?

Well had enough-spent the whole day trying to get Google apps and market place to work. Thought I did them all. Will not download drivers. Not in folder and obviously not recognized. I can not find the answer and from here can not get nay answers or support. What a waste of time and worse money for the Nook. Looks like I am not the only one who has had this problem. I am decent on research and nothing there. Was this a con to buy Nook. Anyone out there get this to work? Seems like if so-pretty basic-then why no answers? Wish someone would respond.

Sorry to say but totally aggravated! I did and redid directions from you and two sites. I go into USB Drivers folder and there are no drivers there. There is nothing that says usb_driver\86 or usb_driver\64. I did search in computer for those files and nothing! I followed the instructions for drivers and said completed? PLEASE-help-I do not know what to do? Where are they and how can I get the drivers? Appreciate advice-thanks.

Saw that about putting SDK into root drive-Not sure how to do that? would I go into my computer and go to C: and then put that string in C? I did put that string in device manager-environment variables edit on the end and still nothing.

@babyblueeyes The simplest way around this issue will be to put the SDK into your root drive (C:) such that your path will look like this: ;c:\android-sdk-windows\tools;c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools Hope it helps. If you encounter any problems, let us know using the Ask a Question box on the right, above the comments box. Happy to help if we can.

I followed all the steps and I can not get it to work! Please help! The only thing what looks different is my path %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\;c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\adb is this right? If not please help me! Thanks
