Microsoft frequently releases patches for the Windows operating system. The updates and patches are designed to fix bugs, plug security holes, and make the operating system more stable. Many worms take advantage of computers that have not applied these updates. Here we'll show you how to make sure Automatic Updates are on.

- Click on Start, then on Settings, and then click on Control Panel.
- In Control Panel double-click on Automatic Updates.
- Make sure the Automatic option is checked!
- Set it for Every Day and pick a time that's good for you.
- While other options are available, none of them provide you with the automatic protection that you need.
- If you choose to have updates downloaded, but not installed, you may forget to install them until it's too late.
- You may become infected with a worm that could have been prevented by an update you didn't apply.
- Be smart. Set your copy of Windows for Automatic updates, Every Day, at a time of your choosing.
