Phishing, you'll recall, is when the perpetrators try to convince you that their email is from your bank or other institution and lure you to a fraudulent Web site to steal your information. - SmartScreen Filter greatly improves on the anti-Phishing engine that was introduced in Internet Explorer 7.
- If you come into contact with a dangerous site Internet Explorer 8 puts up a warning screen.
- The warning screen is red and shows you that the site has been reported as dangerous.
- You're also given the IP address and can get more advanced information.
- If you click on Tools and move down to SmartScreen Filter you can do a number of things.
- You can turn SmartScreen Filter off, which is not recommended.
- You can report a dangerous Web site you encounter.
- If you're suspicious of a particular site, you can has SmartScreen Filter check it out for you.
- SmartScreen Filter has been showing amazing results in preventing malware and phishing attacks.
