Rather than search through a big list of programs in your Start menu to launch a frequently used program, use these simple tips to program a keyboard shortcut in Windows. Once completed, you'll be able to launch the program in question by pressing a simple key combination and your application will pop right up, ready to go. This is also a great way to clean up the clutter of frequently used program shortcuts on your desktop.

In the Start menu:
- Open the Start menu and navigate to the program you wish to assign to a keyboard shortcut.
- Rather than left-clicking on the icon to launch the program, right-click instead.
- In the pop-up context menu that appears select Properties
- When the application properties menu launches, select the text box beside the Shortcut key entry
- Create a unique combination of keys that you'll use in the future to launch the program. Steer clear of common hot key combinations like Ctrl + Z, Ctrl + A etc. and of Shift + any letter.

- Hover the cursor over the application icon on your desktop and right-click.
