- Open Time Machine by selecting the Time Machine icon in the Dock.
- In the window that appears, select Open Time Machine Prefs.
- In Time Machine preferences, slide the selector switch to ON to have your files automatically backed up.
- A disk selection window appears. Choose the volume you wish to use as your Mac's backup drive and click on Use for Backup.
- Click on Options to choose from among the advanced options like whether or not to perform backups while on battery power or warn before deleting old backups.
