Computers are great devices and generally easy-to-use unless you have problems with vision or hearing. You may not be able to easily see what's on the screen. You may not be able to hear an alert. If you have motion problems you may not be able to hold down multiple keys. For all these reasons and more, Universal Access exists to make your life easier.

Show Notes

- Open up System Preferences by clicking on the Dock icon or by clicking on the Apple menu and selecting System Preferences.

- In System Preferences click on Universal Access which is under System.

- You'll see that Universal Access has a number of tabs available.

- Under Seeing you can turn on VoiceOver so text will be spoken aloud.

- You can also turn on Zoom so you can zoom in and out on a portion of the screen.

- Alter the contrast of the screen, make it grayscale, and increase the contrast all so you can see the screen better.

- Under Hearing you can turn on the option to have the screen flash in response to an alert.

- Under Keyboard you can turn on Sticky Keys to make it easier for people with consitions like arthritis.

- You can also turn on Slow Keys so there is a pause between pressing a key and the key responding.

- Turn on click key sounds so you can hear when a key is pressed.

- Under Mouse and Trackpad you can turn on Mouse Keys so keys can be used instead of the mouse.

- Turn off the Trackpad with Mouse Keys are on and increase the size of the cursor.
