When you're dealing with a lot of email coming in, the important messages (like the one from your boss asking you to use the proper cover sheet on your TPS reports) can get lost in the shuffle. If you use Gmail a new feature makes keeping on top of important messages easier. Google Labs introduced multiple inboxes which you can configure to suit your needs. Show all the emails from a certain account, using a particular label, all emails that you've starred and so on.

- In Gmail click on Settings.

- Under setting click on Labs.

- In Labs scroll down until you see the option for Multiple Inboxes and click enable.

- Back at the top of the Settings page you'll now see a Multiple Inboxes configuration option.

- Here you can configure up to five inboxes.

- Options can include:

  • label: my label
  • is: starred
  • label: my label OR is: starred
  • from: email address or mailing list
  • to: email address or mailing list
    and many more.

- You can set how many messages are displayed in each inbox.

- You can also have them displayed above, below, or to the right of the regular inbox.

- Multiple Inboxes gives you a way to sort out your email so you can see
what's important.

You'll never again forget the cover sheet on your TPS report. Did you get that memo?
