Multitasking in BlackBerry OS 6.0

Pt. 5 of 6 | 2:23 |

How Do I use the BlackBerry Torch

Friday October 8, 2010

BlackBerry OS 6.0

makes multitasking much easier for the BlackBerry. Not only is the

application switcher

bigger and easier to use, it's also much simpler to

close your BlackBerry applications

for when you need to

free up some memory

and

speed up your BlackBerry

Torch.

Show Notes

- BlackBerrys have been able to multitask for some time, though it isn't officially multitasking.

- Most applications actually sit idle in the background and wait for you to get back to them, but some will actually be active, like music players and GPS apps.

- Holding the BlackBerry key will show you the applications switcher. This is now a full screen deal rather than just occupying a small strip.

- One problem is that some apps use the same icon, though you can drag your finger over each one to identify it. Tap the app to activate it.

- Close a running application by clicking the BlackBerry menu button, scrolling to the bottom of the menu and selecting the Close option.

- Some applications cannot be closed in this fashion, like BlackBerry Messenger or the browser.

- If your BlackBerry seems to be running slowly, you should close some programs, which will free up some memory.
