How do I use a Sonos

One of the greatest benefits to owning a
Sonos system
is the ability to control your music from anywhere in the home. Another is the ability to manage the various devices you have set up and manage what music is played on those zones. We'll show you how that works in this episode.Download this episode now

When adding a new device to your Sonos setup, you'll be asked for a location to associate with the device. This is actually that device's zone. This is how you can stream music to separate rooms at the same time.
To control what music is played in each zone, just go to your controller software, select a zone and select music to be played. You can choose to play music from your library, from music services, various radio stations or from the line-in.
When choosing music from the library, you have a choice of how it is sorted. Music can be sorted by album, genre, composer, etc. Select an item and you'll have the option to Play Now or Add to Queue. In the Now Playing window, you'll find player controls for controlling playback of your music. As you'd expect, you can also edit your queue at any time, though if you leave it then that queue will be available when you next return.
With multiple zones set up, you can manage what's being played in each region and on each device. You can also record volume straight from your controller or remote device. Another trick you can do is click on a zone in the Zones section and click Link Zone. You'll then have the option to link it with another zone so that those zones will play in sync.
