Show Notes

- "Plussing" adds to the functionality of your base email address.

- For our example, we'll use bob@bobville.com.

- If you're creating filters. a single email address is rather limiting.

- Gmail supports "plussing" and allows you to use it.

- Start with our base email of bob and add a + so we get bob+.

- Now add a tag or keyword that signifies something, like "dailynotes".

- We'd now have bob+dailynotes@bobville.com and you could filter for these messages.

- You can create as many plussed email addresses as you want.

- All of the email comes to your Gmail account but the filters can distinguish the + portion and respond accordingly.

- You can also use plussing to create semi-disposable email addresses.

- When shopping online and asked for an email address, give them a "plussed" address like bob+companyname@bobville.com.

- You can now filter on this email address to check for order from that company.

- In addition, if you receive emails with this address from any other source, you'll know that this company gave away or sold the plussed email address.

- You can then filter these emails so you won't be bothered by them.

- Plussing increases your overall filtering power and makes you more flexible.
