Privacy and security in Firefox
Digging into Firefox's settings a little, we can tell the browser how we want it to behave; this includes which applications Firefox uses to display content as well as how we want websites to appear within Firefox. We can set the default download location for files, change our home page and much more using the Options window in Firefox.

- Click on Tools in the menu bar and select Options.
- Select the Applications tab in the Options window that appears.
- In our example, we use an MP3 file. Select the file type whose behavior you want to modify.
- Select the behavior you want Firefox to use when dealing with this file type. In our MP3 example, you can choose the program that plays the MP3, tell Firefox to automatically download MP3 files when they're clicked or choose the Always ask option to be presented with a dialogue whenever an MP3 file is clicked. This logic also applies to video files, PDFs, documents and so on.
- Click on the Content tab.
- Tweak the behavior of Firefox by selecting whether or not to block pop-up windows, whether or not to load images, enable or disable Java and JavaScript, change the default font and language.
- Click on the Tabs section.
- Here you can further tweak Firefox to your own browsing preferences. Select whether new pages are opened in a new tab or a new window, to warn when closing multiple tabs and so on.
- Click on the Main tab.
- Here you can set some of the basic options within Firefox including your home page, how Firefox behaves when first opened, where to save downloaded files and more.
- The Manage Add-ons allows you to change the options for any add-ons you've installed. For more information on add-ons, see the fifth installment of the Firefox tutorial series.
