Privacy and sharing in Google Wave

Pt. 6 of 10 | 3:23 |

A video overview of Google Wave

Monday November 23, 2009
Unlike e-mail, with Google Wave people can see what you type as you type it. That flaming missive to your boss that feels good to write out but that you know should never be sent?

Google Wave

is not the venue. You can mark a Wave as private or set a Wave such that only certain people can see certain things, but be aware: this is not the static email you're used to.

Show Notes

- When you start a Wave with someone they can see everything that you're typing, images and videos that you're sharing and files that you add as you do it. It's live and there's no way to turn that setting off so make sure that you're not sharing anything over a Wave that you won't regret sharing later. Even if you delete something, the other person has most likely already seen it.

- When someone sends you something like a photo, you can instantly see it, comment on it, and even send your own right back.

- If you're collaborating on a project with people you can start a conversation with one person and invite others in later. They can click the "playback" button to see how the conversation was taking place so that nothing gets lost in translation.

- If you only want one person to see certain content in a Wave, click on the drop down menu next to an item in a wave and select "private conversation." Then select the person who you wish to share this with from your list of contacts.
