Protecting your iPad

Pt. 5 of 5 | 2:05 |

Using the iPad as your main machine

Friday September 9, 2011
The iPad, while stylish, is a delicate piece of machinery. It's also got a fully exposed glass screen, so that's a bad combination. Protect your new favorite toy by getting a protective, practical case. We show you some of our preferred iPad accessories in this episode that will help increase the longevity of your Apple tablet.

One last, albeit major, concern regarding the iPad is the tablet's shape. If you're used to using a laptop or netbook, then you're familiar with the clamshell, screen-protecting design. The iPad doesn't have that so throwing it into your backpack might result in heartbreak and/or a backpack full of glass fragments. You can purchase a screen protector from Apple but this only protects the screen side, so you might want to look at other options.

A better option might be the Griffin Elan Folio case. This is a leather-like folio case that folds over, protecting both the iPad's front and back, and also has room for several cards or miscellaneous pieces of paper.

The Joby Gorillamobile Ori is also an option. This not only offers a metal case but also doubles as an iPad stand so that you can position your iPad better in a more ergonomic fashion.

A more portable solution is the Tom Bihn Ristretto bag. This iPad messenger bag has a protective section just for the iPad but also has a separate section for your keyboard, iPad stand or what have you.
