Research In Motion (RIM) has announced the beta testing of BlackBerry Protect. When it goes public, it will be a free service for BlackBerry owners that will give them added peace of mind.

BlackBerry Protect will offer wireless:
- Backup of contacts and data.
- Restore.
- Phone location. Users who misplace their BlackBerry will be able to make it emit sounds.
- Remote Wipe: User will be able to remotely wipe the contents not only of their phone, but also any storage card.
- BlackBerry Protect is available now to members of BlackBerry Beta Zone.
- Beta testing will open up to more users later this year.
