Getting your first video onto YouTube can be done by either uploaded or recorded directly from your webcam. We'll look at how to get your video onto the web's go-to video hosting site. We'll also talk about privacy: You can choose to share your video with a select group of friends and family or with the world at large. Your public awaits, so let's get started!

Upload a video
- Click on the Upload button at the top right of the YouTube page.
- Populate the text fields: Title, description, category and tags. These will help other YouTubers to find your video and will help to make sure your video turns up in relevant search results.
- If you want to share your video only with trusted family and friends who are on YouTube, select Private under Broadcast Options.
- Under Date and Map Options, input the date and select a point on the map to show where and when your video was shot.
- Under Sharing Options you have some control over how your video appears on YouTube. You can limit or disallow comments, add or remove voting, enable or disable embedding or syndication and more.
Record or upload your video
- Select Quick Capture to record a video using your webcam. You will have to choose to allow YouTube to access your camera and microphone in the Adobe Flash Player Settings window that appears.
- Select Upload a video to find a video stored on your computer that you wish to share on YouTube.
- Click on Browse and navigate to the video on your computer and select it.
- Depending on the size of your file and the speed of your connection, uploading may take several minutes.
- Your video now appears on YouTube! Your public awaits.
