When using a computer you may use lots of programs. If you have a crash programs can be easily reinstalled. What isn't easily replaced is your data. Documents, spreadsheet, photos, music, text files, presentations and more can be lost in the blink of an eye. That's why it's so important to keep your data backed up.

- Click on Start and then on Control Panel.
- In Control Panel double-click on Backup and Restore Center.
- You can elect to just back up specific files and folders.
- You can also decide to create an image of your entire computer.
- Make your selection. In this example we'll click on Back up files and then click Continue.
- You're then asked where you want to store the backup.
- Remember that you'll need quite a bit of space if save a snapshot of your PC as an "image."
- Select the CD, DVD, hard drive, or network drive that you want to back up to and click Next.
- Select the various file types that you want to backup.
- Pick from Pictures, Music, Videos, and so on and when you're finished click Next.
- Select how often you want the backup to take place. You can have it run Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
- I recommend you run it Weekly.
- Pick the day and time if you choose Weekly.
- Restore is just the reverse of Backup.
- You pick what you want to Restore and select the restore location.
