When you're trying to put a photo album together, either online or in software, you want to get photos in a particular order. Photos right
from the camera have strange names like DSC-37.JPG, or worse. By taking
advantage of the way your computer sorts files by name you can rename photos pretty quickly and have them in exactly the order you want.

Show Notes

- In general, items are sorted on the computer by name in alphabetical
order.

- Computers will sort numbers before letters so 1 will be above a.

- Keeping this in mind you can rename pictures and get them in the order
you want by taking advantage of this sorting method.

- Rename a photo and put a 1 at the beginning and it will be at the top
of the list.

- You can organize photos that should be sequential by giving them
sequential numbers like 2, 22, and 222.

- In the example above if you renamed the next photo with a 3 at the
front it would fall right after the one with the 2.

- To get it to come after 222 you'd want to name it something like 3Z.

- Experiment and remember that you can get an entire collection of
photos in the order you want simply by altering a few characters at the
beginning of the existing file name.
