Friday July 24, 2009
There are times when the

Windows Registry becomes corrupted

to the point where the computer can no longer boot. Perhaps your own

Windows Registry editing went awry

or perhaps the Registry just got corrupted over time. Whatever the case, it's possible to

restore the Windows Registry from a back-up

(like the one we made in part 3 of this series, Precautions for using the Windows Registry editor. Even if

Windows won't boot

it's possible to get it back up and running with your

- If you are getting Registry errors you may get to the point where you can't boot into Windows.

- If that's the case there is a solution.

- Start your computer and tap the F8 function key as it starts up.

- This will bring up the Windows boot menu.

- Select the option Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

- Windows will boot into Safe Mode and take you to your login.

- Login and Windows will go to the command prompt.

- At the DOS prompt type the following one line at a time:

- cd c:\windows Enter
- attrib -h -r -s system.dat Enter
- attrib -h -r -s user.dat Enter
- attrib -h -r -s system.da0 Enter
- attrib -h -r -s user.da0 Enter
- copy user.da0 system.dat
- copy user.da0 user.dat

- Windows will now load an uncorrupted version of your Registry.

- Restart your computer and Windows should boot just fine.
