Virtual machines give you a great way to run Windows software on your Mac. Parallels Desktop for Mac helps you to create virtual machines from operating system discs or disc images. The process is quick and easy-to-do.

- Download Parallels Desktop for Mac.
- Install it on your Mac and double-click on the program icon.
- When the interface opens it will either be empty or it may show VMware Fusion virtual machines if you are already using that program.
- Click on the + sign, then click Continue.
- In this example we're going to use an ISO disc image of Ubuntu Linux. Not only is this easy to do, but Ubuntu is free.
- Click on Choose and use the file dialog to find the disc image you want.
- Select the image, click Open and then click Continue.
- Parallels will determine the needs and type of virtual machine.
- When it's finished just click Done.
- A window will now appear showing the name of the virtual machine.
- Remember at this point the virtual machine hasn't been created, it's just been prepared.
- The creation will begin when you click Start.
