- Before you actually scan your computer you should check that you are set for an optimal scan first. Check that the IntelliGuard features are active and up-to-date.

- Go to Settings, then click Scan Settings and ensure that each of the boxes except the last one is checked. This last selection is optional, works only with Windows Vista or Windows XP and allows you to create a Restore Point prior to changing any files after the scan.

- Under Scan Archives, select All so that Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus will scan your entire system.

- The Global Action List tab allows you to select certain websites or folders that will be exempted from the scan.

- By default, Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus will share data with PC Tools for research. If you would like to turn this feature off click Settings, then click Secure Community and click ON to switch it OFF. Click Apply.

- Now that you're ready to scan click on Status in the main menu, then click Scan Computer Now.

Scanning your PC

might take a while, depending on how many files and applications you have on your hard drive.

- As the scan progresses any

threats and infections

will be listed below the progress bar. The information here will describe the suspicious item and give it a number according to its threat level.

- Clicking on a threat will give you a more detailed description and will tell you a little bit about what the infected file might do. Clicking Learn More will give you more info from the PC Tools website.

- At the bottom is a Fix Checked button, but try not to jump the trigger too quickly. Some files will be necessary for program usage. We'll tell you how to sort between them in the next part of this series.

- If you have any questions about how Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus scans your computer, you can go to the PC Tools website for support.
