Sending SMS text messages to your friends, coworkers and family is a great way to relay a quick message bite when a phone call is not convenient or necessary. Cell phone service providers know this too and charge (sometimes hefty) fees for sending text messages. Here are a few ways to avoid those fees by sending text messages to mobile phones, right from your PC.

- SMS: Short Message Service Abbreviated as SMS - the transmission of short text messages to and from a mobile phone, fax machine and/or IP address.
- MMS: Multimedia Messaging Service - Can contain any combination of images animations and audio.
- To send an SMS message, use a messaging site like Gizmo SMS
- Send text through AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) by messaging the telephone number: Insert +1 area code and 7 digit number in the buddy field and write your message.
- Send SMS and MMS messages through your email client. Following are formats for some popular carriers:
