Whether it's the sales report for an upcoming meeting or a photo set from a recent vacation, sometimes you want to send and receive files via instant message. Transferring files over instant message is especially handy when the file in question is too big to send in email. Whatever it is you need to send, Adium makes it easy with its quick and simple file transfer utility.

Download Adium for the Mac and follow along with this tutorial series
- Open Adium.
- Highlight the contact you want to send a file to.
- Right-click and select Send file.
- A dialog will come up so you can navigate and select the file you want to send. You may send one file at a time. You could Zip multiple files into one archive and then send to save time.
- Highlight the file you wish to send and click Open.
- The transfer begins, a window opens, and when the transfer is done the window closes.
- You can click on Adium and then Preference and then on the File Transfer tab.
- Here you can allow transfers from anyone. This is recommended.
- If you wish you can allow transfers only from people on your contact list.
