Your BlackBerry is much more than just a phone. It holds all your contact information, documents, your email and much more. To protect that data it's wise to put a password on your BlackBerry so only you can access it.

- On your BlackBerry move over to Settings and click the trackball.
- In Settings move over to Options and click the trackball.
- In Options move to Password and click the trackball.
- Number of Password Attempts can be set from three to 10.
- Highlight it and press the trackball to change the setting.
- Security Timeout can be set form one minute to one hour. Highlight it and
click to change the setting.
- Prompt on Application Install: Choose either Yes or No.
- Lock Handheld Upon Holstering: Choose either Yes or No.
- Allow Outgoing Calls While Locked: Choose either Yes or No.
- Move back up to Disable and press the trackball. Highlight Enabled and
press the trackball again.
- Now scroll down to Set Password and press the trackball.
- Type in your password and type it again to verify.
- You cannot use a password less than four characters.
- Your password is now set.
- Caution: If you exceed the number of password attempts your
BlackBerry will completely wipe itself and return to factory settings. Good if your BlackBerry is stolen, not so good if you accidentally input the incorrect password too many times.
- Have a good backup created with BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
