Thursday July 7, 2011

Setting up an email account

on the

HP TouchPad

is actually really easy, as we'll show you in this episode. In most cases, it's as simple as just entering your

email address and password

, although you can also go into a

manual configuration mode

where you can also change

encryption settings

or server settings.

One of the main things that tablet owners like to do is manage their email. Tablets have more screen space than smartphones and make reading and replying to emails much easier. To start setting up your email on the

HP TouchPad

, you'll need to first swipe up from the bottom bezel and then tap on the upward-facing arrow. Swipe left until you get to your settings screen and then tap on Accounts. From here, just type Add an Account and then select Email Account from the list.

The process to add an email account is fairly simple in most cases. Just enter your email address and password and tap Sign In. You should see the TouchPad process your request and then your account will be created. If this process doesn't work, then you may have to enter manual mode and enter your information manually. You can also enter manual mode to change encryption or server settings. Once your information is all entered, just tap Sign In to continue.

The TouchPad should start to sync with your email account automatically. To get to your email, just swipe up from the bottom bezel and then tap on the mail icon. While in landscape mode, you should see a three-column view that consists of your mailboxes and folders, then the email in the middle with a preview pane on the right. The three-column icon below each pane allows you to hide a pane or change the size of each. To delete a message from the message pane, just swipe left or right to get the option to delete.

When reading an email or composing a new message, a new card will open up. You can find this new window in the multitasking menu as a card that appears over your email program. You can make this card a stack unto itself by simply going into the multitasking menu and swiping the card into a new pile.
