Those who need a little extra help keeping up with their tasks should be pleased with the addition of

Reminders in iOS 5

. This application allows you to set reminders up for the things you need to do, complete with alerts to make sure you don't forget what's important. You can even have these alerts set to go off either by time or, using GPS, by location.

Reminders is a new application that is built right in to iOS 5. Prior to this the main ways to remind yourself about tasks that need doing were to use a dedicated application or to enter your to-do tasks into your Calendar application. Unfortunately that would invariably clutter your Calendar app up with trivial tasks that shouldn't really be listed alongside business meetings.

To start using Reminders just tap the Reminders app. Tap the screen to enter a new reminder. Once an item is entered it will show an empty checkbox beside it. To set an alert for a task just tap on it in your Reminders list. Here you can tell the app to remind you of your task at a particular time and date or when you arrive at or leave a particular location. This can be handy if you want to be reminded to pick up milk either when you leave work or when you arrive at the grocery store. You can also pick locations right out of your address book.

Reminders will not only be listed in the Reminders app, they'll also appear as alerts in the Notification Center. Keep in mind of course that any location-based alerts will require more battery life due to the app needing to pull your location data constantly.
