Setting up the Roku player

In this episode we'll be showing you how to

set up your Roku device

. First you'll need to unpack the unit, including the power cable and the remote control. Place the Roku next to your television and connect it using your desired video output, then plug it into the wall. Note that the Roku has no power button and will stay on while plugged in. Make sure that your television is properly set to receive input from the Roku.

Now with both the

TV and the Roku connected

and turned on you'll need to go through the initial set up. You'll first be asked whether you are using a

wired or wireless network connection

. If you're going to go with wires make sure that the ethernet cable is plugged in, then select wired. Otherwise, select wireless. The Roku will find nearby networks and you can select one of these to connect to. If your network is password protected then you'll need to enter the wireless password using the on-screen keyboard. Enter the code with your remote and select done. In the next screen you'll be able to set the time, change your time zone and change between 24 hour mode.

After this comes a section where you'll need to link your Roku player with your Roku account. You'll get a code that you'll need to enter at Roku.com/link. You'll also need a Roku account which you can get at that link. Once you're logged in just take the code from your TV screen and enter it into the link box and click Link. Once you do this your Roku unit will move to the next screen and you'll get a congratulations notice. You can also set your TV type from here.

Once you've finished that last step you'll be taken to the main channels screen.
