Finding your way with Google Maps

Viewing Google Maps for traffic conditions, points of interest, the view from the street, photos and Wikipedia entries is all well and good. However, creating and saving your points of interest; your home, work favorite parks and restaurants really unlocks the personal power of Google Maps. And it's easy to do.

Show Notes

- In the left-hand navigation pane, click on the My Maps tab.

- Click on Create new map, input a title and description in the text boxes, select sharing preferences and click Done.

- Click on Collaborate if you want to invite others to modify your map.

- Select points of interest on the map and drop place markers on them. Clicking on the place marker allows you to change the icon.

- Using the icons on the top-left of the map screen, we can move the map (hand tool), drop place markers (bubble place mark tool), draw lines (line tool) or shapes (shape tool).

- Double-clicking on an element you've added to the map lets you edit it; you can add text, change colors, titles and more.

- Right-clicking on any of the elements you've added to a map brings up a context menu that allows you to zoom in, get directions to or from that point and more.
